frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the purpose of Intel GLBTE?

Intel GLBTE, Intel Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender Employees, exists to provide a forum for Intel employees in affirmation of Intel's commitment to equality, diversity and making Intel a great place to work.

Intel GLBTE represents a support network for GLBT Intel employees. Further, Intel GLBTE represents a point of contact for providing Intel employees information on the GLBT community within Intel and information on GLBT communities in those geographic areas where Intel has a presence.

What are some of the goals of Intel GLBTE?

What is the history of Intel GLBTE? When did it start?

Intel GLBTE got its unofficial start in Oregon in 1992. In '93 it expanded to other Intel sites, and the following years saw an effort to get recognition and acceptance. The work paid off; in 1995 Intel GLBTE was recognized as Intel's first sanctioned employee group.

Who can be a member of Intel GLBTE?
Do I have to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender to be a member of Intel GLBTE?

Any Intel USA employee (blue badge) may become an Intel GLBTE member, regardless of orientation, provided they uphold the aims and intents described in the Intel GLBTE charter, mission and bylaws.

Membership isn't available to contractors (green badge), non-USA employees, and non-employees.

What are the privileges of membership?

How do I contact Intel GLBTE?

Get in touch with your site contact, or send us feedback.

Are there activities Intel GLBTE isn't going to engage in (e.g. is Intel GLBTE a union? ... )?

We'd also like to make it really clear what we're not about — we're not about forming a union, we're not pushing affirmative action or quotas for GLBT employees, we're not a political action committee or in any way politically affiliated. We're not anarchists, we're not going to "out" anyone, and we're not "recruiting" — all of these are potential misconceptions we hope to address and dispel. We think familiarity with us, as individuals and as a group, all bring mutual understanding and respect. We want to work hard to address any misconceptions employees have about Intel as a Great Place to Work relative to GLBT issues, just as any other employees might (for example as a woman's or ethnic or cultural group).

Can I still participate if I'm not a member?

Yes. Being on this list does not make someone an official Intel GLBTE member. This list is not confidential and is visible to anyone on Intel's intranet.
